Continental Drift and Seafloor Spreading

Continental Drift-the gradual movement of the continents across the earth's surface through geological time.

1. Fossils-fossils of a dinosaur were found on different continents separated by oceans which supports the idea of continental drift
2. Puzzle Pieces-the continents look like they should fit together supporting the idea of continental drift
3. Mountain Ranges-mountain ranges found in Europe have the same composistion and the same rocks in them supporting the idea of continental drift
4. Coal and Glacier Evidence-coal which requires tropical plants were found in cold desolate places
Glaciers which require a cold environment were found in South America from glacier striations

Seafloor Spreading-the formation of new areas of oceanic crust, which occurs through the upwelling of magma at midocean ridges and its subsequent outward movement on either side.

1.The Magnetic Reversals-when the magnetic reversals took place the ocean floor composistion of iron pointed to the direction of the magnetic pole. In the ocean there are many different times where the ocean floor is pointing different directions.
2. The Age of Ocean Floor-the closer the floor is to the midocean ridge the younger it is. So the farther away the ocean floor the older. These to facts help prove seafloor spreading. No Pictures? Great Answers. Great Effort!
