Evidence of Evolution

Evolution is the idea that living things evolve, or change, from something else. An example is that humans evolved from gorillas. You may be thinking, "How do we know that evolution has occurred?" In this blog post I will be giving you three examples of how we know that evolution has occurred.

1. Fossils- Fossils provide a great example of proof that evolution has occurred. You have probably seen a rock that has a cool shape imprinted in it. It may look like a leaf or a bone. If you have ever seen this you have probably seen some sort of evolution. An example is if you find a dinosaur bone and then you compare it to a reptile bone, they probably look similar. This is because a reptile may have evolved from a dinosaur.

2. Homologous Structures- By studying homologous structures we can see that bones/fossils are similar in many ways. Homologous structures are bones that look the same, but come from different species. For example the hand bones of a panda are very similar to the hand bones of a gorilla. Although they are different species they have very similar bones and traits.

3. Pesticide Resistance- Pesticide resistance is another example of evidence of evolution. Pesticide resistance is when a species creates an immunity to a killer. For example, when you spray your weeds with "weed killer" to kill them the weeds will die. If you spray the weeds with the "weed killer" for a long amount of time the weeds could develop a pesticide resistance to the "weed killer."
