Continental Drift/ Seafloor Spreading
Continental Drift is when magma is coming out of the ground under water and the continents are spreading apart and the magma is making new floor.
Evidences of continental drift
1. The continents look like a puzzle- The continents now look like they were all hocked together at one time because the look like they fit together.
2. Fossils- The animals that lived back then could only live in certain climates. For example this one animal could only live in fresh water and it can't swim very far. And this animal has fossils in Africa and in South America. That animal can't swim across the entire ocean and it can't be in salt water.
3. Climate- There are signs that in one time really hot places it was once cold. They figured that the continents have moved and the temperature has changed.
4. Landforms- There're are proof that one time the contents had moutons in some places and also had other landforms in some places and then when the continents move the move to weird places where they don't really belong.
Sea Floor spreading is when in trenches under water erupt with magma and the magma moves the land and it creates more and so it pushes the older mama farther away and make more floor. This happens in the mid- atlantic ridge, it an under water mountain range.
An evidence of this is the magnetic reversal it it when the iron magma hardens in a certain direction. right now ours points north and over time as the magma comes out it makes it around and millions of years from now the magnets could all point south.

Continental Drift/Seafloor Spreading
Continental drift- the Theory that the continents are moving very slowly
Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.
1. Identical fossils are found on different continents
2. They all look like they can fit together
3. Tropical remains are found in very cold climates
4.Scratches in the rocks called glacial striations are found in the jungle
Seafloor Spreading- Magma is pushing up through the sea floor and solidifying making the "Mid-Atlantic Ridge
Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.
1. The volcanic mountains found at the bottom of the ocean make more land when magma cools- how do you we know this?
2. The further you get away from the volcanoes the older the rock

Continetial Drift/Seafloor Spreading by Decemberlyn
Continental drift is when all the continents drifted apart. When all the continent were all together it was call Pangaea.
Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.
1. Mountain Ranges - The same type of rock forms are found on two different mountain ranges on two different continents.
2. Puzzle - The continents look like puzzle pieces, that they would fit together.
3. Fossils - The same fossils are found in two different continents.
4. Weather - Where its tropical it was cold. Where it was cold it was tropical

1. Harry Hess proposed that hot, less dense material below Earth’s crust rises toward the surface at the mid-ocean ridges. Then, it flows sideways, carrying the seafloor away from the ridge in both directions. How was this proved?
2. Iron materials found in the ocean floor at different times in history were pointing in different directions. These are called what?

Continental Drift/Seafloor Spreading
Continental Drift is the theory that all continents were all connected together at one point of time, but then slowly moved to their current location. There are four facts to prove this.
1. Fossils - The fossil of a mesosaurus is found half on one continent and half on another continent. There is no way he flew across because he was a reptile. He couldn't of swam the way because he could only swim in fresh water, while the ocean is salt water.
2. Striation Marks - Glacial striation marks are found in unlikely climates, which in current days would be impossible for a glacier to be found there. This must mean that the continent must of been in a warmer climate in past time.
3. They Fit Together - They just look like fit together.
4. Mountains - A set of mountains are found in one place, and across the ocean they are mountains that are made of the EXACT same rock of the first set of mountains, which is near impossible.
Seafloor Spreading the the spreading of the Seafloor.
1. When scientists studied patterns in the rocks of the ocean floor, they found more support for sea-floor spreading. You read earlier that Earth behaves like a giant magnet, with a north pole and a south pole. Surprisingly, Earth’s magnetic poles have reversed themselves many times during Earth’s history. The last reversal happened 780,000 years ago. If the magnetic poles suddenly reversed themselves today, you would find that your compass needle points south. Excellent!

2. Samples of the deep ocean floor show that basaltic oceanic crust and overlying sediment become progressively younger as the mid-ocean ridge is approached, and the sediment cover is thinner near the ridge. How did they find this out?
