Continental drift/ Sea floor Spreading

Great!Continental drift- The gradual movement of the continents across the earth’s surface over time.
1.) Fossils- The same fossils where found on separate continents, but the animal only lived in fresh water and couldn't fly so the continents had to be close at one time.
2.) Glacier- The glacier striations look the same on South America and Africa which supports the theory of them once being one continent.
3.) Puzzle Pieces- South America and Africa look like they where once one.
4.) Mountains- The mountains on separate continents look the same and are made of almost the same rock.
Great!Sea floor Spreading- A process that occurs at mid- ocean ridges, where new oceanic crust is formed through volcanic activity and then gradually moves away from the ridge.
1.) Age- when new acetic crust is formed the age of the crust around it is older.
2.) Magnetic reversal- A switch in the direction of Earth's magnetic field so that the magnetic north pole becomes the magnetic south pole and the magnetic south pole becomes the magnetic north pole.

Evidence of Evolution by: Olivia

Fossils- Incomplete remains of organisms that used to live.

Embryology-is the earliest study of development.

Studying DNA- Carries genetic information. And is responsible for mutation.

Evidence of Evolution

List and explain 3 examples of evidence of evolution. Support your answers with at least one picture.
This assignment is worth 10 points.
1. Study of Fossil-
any remains, impression, or trace of a living thing of a former geologic age, as a skeleton, footprint, etc.
Scientist study Fossils every day to make history.

2. Embryology- the science dealing with the formation, development, structure, and functional activities of embryos.
Embryology scientists study the earliest growth age

3. Vestigial structures- it has lost much of its ancestral function.

Scientist have announced that whales have Vestigial structure.

Evidence of Evolution

List and explain 3 examples of evidence of evolution. Support your answers with at least one picture.
This assignment is worth 10 points.

1. Studying fossils. Fossils is  the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock. An example is bones or plants in a sedimentary rock.
2. Studying DNA. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA is a self-replicating material present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.
3. Embryology. Embryology is the earliest growth stage of an organism. Some examples are humans and birds, fish and reptiles.

Evidence of Evolution

1. A evidence of evolution could be crossbreeding plants. I think it is a good example because you can change how plants look and what they produce over an amount of time. When you are cross breeding plants over an amount of time plants reproduce odd plants and then you take that plant and make it reproduce then they look like that odd plant. Then you have a different kind of species of plants.

2. Another type of evolution is pesticide resistance in insect species. An example of this is if you have a field of grass hoppers and the are eating your cops and you spray a chemical that kills them, but they all don't die and then you keep spraying them with it, they will eventual grow immune to that chemical. Then you will have to spray a different chemical.

3. DNA can also be an evidence of evolution. When a person is born they have there DNA and it is a mixture of there moms and dads. Every person is different so it makes everyones DNA different. So every day it is changing somewhere around the world and everyone has different DNA.
